Our team

A native of Detroit, Dan holds a BA in Economics from the University of Michigan. He moved to Mexico City in 1992 and has since been dedicated to editorial services. 

He was a staff translator at the Mexican daily El Economista and later a staff writer at El Financiero, in addition to working as a foreign correspondent for the Journal of Commerce and other national publications. He has translated a photo-essay book on consignment of a NGO in India, an extensive catalog of the MALBA museum in Buenos Aires, exhibit catalogs for Cristina Kahlo and Juan Coronel,  as well as numerous annual reports for Expansión 100 companies. He also contributes to Expansión magazine, and has been published in Travesías magazine in Spanish. He was Director of International and Financial Information at the Mexican conglomerate Grupo Salinas for over 15 years.

He plays trumpet in the jazz sextet Candela Groove, for which he composed several titles in the band’s two albums. Dan competes as a sculler in the masters circuit of the Mexican Rowing Federation.

Rowena Galavitz started out in the publishing world as a typesetter and proofreader in New York City. She then spent two decades living in Mexico, where she was the copyeditor or managing editor for numerous bilingual publications. Since 2004, Rowena has translated Latin American art criticism, academic work, short stories, and poetry. In 2018 she won runner-up in the World Literature Today Translation Prize for poetry. Rowena currently works part-time for the Journal of the American Academy of Religion. 

Rowena holds a BA in studio art from New York University and a master’s degree in European studies from Indiana University. She is currently working toward a certificate in literary translation and a PhD in religious studies at Indiana University. In her graduate studies, she focuses on Spanish-speaking convent writers of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.

Rowena enjoys reading fiction in English, Spanish, and Catalan; listening to rock and jazz; and spending time with her two cats. 

Karina has worked as a freelance writer, editor, proofreader and translator since 1995. She has a BA in Philosophy from the UNAM, a diploma in Critical Theory from Instituto 17, and a master’s degree in Education from SUNY Buffalo State University in New York. She is an active member of the Círculo de Traductores since its founding in 2011. The group obtained support from FONCA for the project “Incubator of Editorial Translation Projects” in 2018. She has given translation workshops for the Department of Translation and Interpretation (DTI) of the National School of Linguistic Languages and Translation (ENALLT) of the UNAM, as well as the Literary Translation Workshop as part of the Master’s program in Language, Literature and Translation of the UABJO.
