Translation
Contexto Académico takes the utmost care with translating your academic documents such as abstracts, journal articles, and books. As specialists in academic areas, we capture the meaning and sense of the original text and render it into clear language. We maintain a scholarly yet easy-to-understand voice in the new work. Our goal is to use natural language that your target audience will comprehend. We make your research come to life in another language!
Copyediting
Copyediting goes beyond correcting grammar, spelling, syntax, and punctuation; it also involves improving sentence flow and structure, word choice, and continuity, all of which improve the comprehensibility of the text. In short, copyediting makes the text as readable as possible so your reader focuses on the content instead of stumbling over odd phrasing. Our copyeditors prepare a style sheet for each job with information such as body text and heading styles, and this person also makes note of all proper names, which are fact checked.
Proofreading
Proofreading is generally the final step in the editing process and is usually done on galley proofs (typeset material). It checks for basic errors like grammar, spelling, syntax, and punctuation. It also corrects often overlooked items such as double spaces and proper quotation marks (curly quotes), and verifies items such as consistency in the formatting of the text. Proofreading corrects details like hyphenation, orphans, and widows, and makes sure style sheets are followed.
Formatting
We can format the footnotes and bibliography of your academic work to match the requirements of your publisher. That means making sure everything is in the right place and with the proper style. With strengths in the Modern Language Association (MLA) and Chicago Manual of Style (CMS) citation styles, we can also format your work in other styles such as the American Psychological Association (APA). We make sure your article isn’t rejected because of poor formatting!
Journal Article Workshop
Our experts give one to three hour-long workshops to scholars about how to have a better chance of getting published in English, which can be a challenging process. The workshop addresses topics like structuring your article, wording your thesis—including theory and method—and presenting your evidence. It emphasizes the importance of a strong introduction and conclusion. And it shows you how to identify appropriate journals, query them, and submit your work. All workshops are given through Zoom.
Individual Coaching
We provide three types of individual coaching that are geared toward publishing in the United States. The first one includes all of the subjects listed in the Journal Article Workshop. The second one involves critiquing your scholarly work in terms of thesis, argument, and contribution to the field. The third type helps scholars appropriate journals in which to publish. All coaching is done through online video platforms.
